Illinois Drying Out

Story by WBGZ Radio

Dry conditions persist across Illinois and could soon become a problem. With precipitation well below normal, it's been a vary dry June so far, according to State Climatologist Jim Angel.

He notes that aside from Wednesday's storms, Central Illinois has received almost no rain at all in recent weeks.

Angel says this rapid drying can lead to a "flash drought" because conditions can deteriorate rapidly. He says we aren't there yet, but will be if Illinois doesn't see some significant rain soon.
