Jerseyville Officer Returns Home

Story by WBGZ Radio

A Jerseyville Police Officer who was shot and injured in the line of duty last week has returned home to recover.  30 year old Nathan Miller received a heroes welcome when a caravan of more than 2 dozen police and fire vehicles drove into town on Sunday afternoon.

Miller was escorted from St. Louis University Hospital to Jerseyville and once the caravan got to the Riverbend, the show of support was visible.  An American flag was hung from an overpass on 255 near Bethalto, and then local residents began standing along Highway 67 until the largest part of the crowd gathered in town.  Miller was injured when he and other officers were pursuing a burglary suspect early last Tuesday morning.  According to police, the suspect fled on foot but then fired a handgun at officers who then returned fire.  Miller and the suspect were struck several times and the suspect succumbed to his injuries.  Miller has been with the Jerseyville Police Department for 3 years and before that was a police officer in St. Louis.

Donations are still being accepted for Officer Miller and his family.  They can be made to the:

City of Jerseyville Police Benevolent Fund
