Police in Wood River say the report of a stabbing this morning outside the Family Dollar was a hoax.  Officers investigating the case say after checking the evidence and speaking to the alleged victim, police believe the story was made up and now the reported victim is facing charges.

According to a news release from Wood River Police, the incident was reported this morning just after 9:00.  The first officer on the scene described the injuries to the reported victim as superficial and the man claiming he was robbed and stabbed on the east side of the building and the suspect ran off.  Wood River Police asked for assistance from the Alton K-9 unit who searched the area but found no suspect.  The alleged victim was later interviewed again at the hospital and is now under arrest pending charges.
